Study tools for open collections
Search by artist, by the owner named on the plate, or by technique code. Every open record has a stable link, a ready citation and a clear rights label.
Records are open data under CC0.
Open study collections
Published with full catalogue records by institutions and collectors. The records are open data. Each image shows its own rights.
No open study collections yet.
Sets
Anyone can gather exlibris from any public collection into a set to study, cite or share.
No public sets yet.
How to cite
Every record has a stable link that never changes. Pick a style, copy it and paste it into your bibliography.
No open record to cite yet.
Rights and reuse
A collector owns the paper, not the copyright. So the records are open to everyone, while each image says what you may do with it.
Title, artist, owner, code, size, year and holder of every public record are open data under CC0. Copy, reuse and publish them without asking.
The copyright stays with the artist, and with their heirs for 70 years after the artist’s death. So every exlibris carries one of three labels.
Public domain and CC0 images download at full size. Images in copyright can be viewed, zoomed and compared here, but not downloaded. For reuse, ask the rights holder.
No open record shows these labels yet.
Copyright term in the EU: the life of the artist and 70 years after death (Directive 2006/116/EC, article 1).
Open data
Every public record is published each month as CSV and JSON under CC0. Use them in a thesis, a map or your own database.
The first file is published on the first day of next month.
